My husband walked in the door the other day..so pleased with himself..'..I have something for you!'..ooh..?? I thought..must be goood...lol..had to swallow..my 'EEK!' ..and grin a rather yellow smile..

It was a very fresh (almost squirmy) HUGE squid!

Ha..welcome to the Azores.
I.. who until my 20's, fish and seafood, apart from the odd shrimp or clam, had been basically square and breaded (as in fishsticks).. have learnt to be very brave..cleaning and cooking these lovelies..but well worth it..yum! Grilled with a bit of garlic, lemon and white wine ..yes ..can be easy to adapt.

  1. Wow! I only ever get fresh seafood when I am on vacation somewhere on the Mediterranean... so, I haven't mastered the preparation of it yet. But I am sure it was delicious!

  2. I love squid! Especially fried with lemon and a good aoli sauce. It doesn't get fresher than what you have. That is a very nice present indeed.

  3. Eek, I wouldn't have the faintest clue on how to prepare a squid. You're very brave!

  4. Hahaha I would have screamed and run out the open door! Hahaha I'll do fish but I can't even eat a lobster with those stalkey little eyes!

  5. yes .. eyes..definitely the worst! I actually have to close mine when cutting them out..hoping not to cut a finger.:( Corvid..checking out that aoli sauce!

  6. Hummm!
    I'd be delighted!
Grilled, of course, it's the best choice for this time of year. Next time you can try to make it grilled with only salt and you can make a sauce with butter (Vaqueiro) and lemon juice. Poach some potatoes to go with it, open a white wine or vinho verde bottle and it's the best summer meal ever!

PS - Did you see my message on FB?

  7. Cris..that's the recipe I was trying to remember! I recalled it was super simple..ok just salt.. and the lemon etc. added after..the best!
